School Sports Partnership
Within the London Borough of Enfield there are two School Sport Partnerships - Lea Valley and Enfield Local Authority. All infant, junior, primary, secondary and special schools within the Borough are involved in this programme.
The main focus of the programme is to achieve the Public Service Agreement set by the Government as part of their Physical Education, School Sport and Club Link (PESSCL) strategy in 2002:
"To enhance the take up of sporting opportunities by 5-16 year olds so that the percentage of school children who spend a minimum of 2 hours each week on high quality PE and School Sport, within and beyond the curriculum, increases to 75% by 2006 and to 85% by 2008."
Lea Valley School Sport Partnership is made up of 8 secondary schools, 30 primary schools, 3 special schools and 1 secondary tuition centre. These schools and centres come together as families to ensure that the young people of Lea Valley have access to a wide range of high quality sporting and physical activities.
Essentially secondary Physical Educationalists are released to work alongside primary and special colleagues to ensure that high quality PE is taking place. There are also a number of initiatives available for all schools to access to increase the range of out of school hours opportunities on offer for all young people.
