Lea Valley High School has been a Specialist Sports College since 2002. We have recently been successful in our application for re-designation as a Sports College which will last for the next four years until September 2010. The Youth Sports Trust states that;
'Specialist Sports Colleges position PE and sport at the centre of the curriculum, using it as a vehicle to develop and improve learning opportunities for all.'
The award of Sports College status has been fundamental in the development of Lea Valley High School and its community partnership and will continue to have a positive effect on the future success of our pupils. Leadership is a key area how sport can enhance students confidence and self-esteem and this underpins our vision as a Sports College. Through promoting a positive attitude to health and fitness as well as personal achievement through teamwork and leadership we can provide our students with vital life skills for the future.
We have strong partnerships with many organizations including Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and their foundation project and Saracens Rugby Club through our use of the RFU community sports scheme. This coupled with Whitewebbs FC, Edmonton CC, Southgate Hockey Club, Middlesex University, The Jack Petchey Foundation and the Youth Sports Trust enables our students to gain access to a large range of opportunities within the wider community.
Lea Valley High School has outstanding facilities which include a sports hall, gymnasium, dance studio, astroturf, hard courts, playing fields and a state of the art fitness suite. These are used extensively in our extra-curricular provision and by our local community to develop performance.
